Toor Dal Khichadi Recipe

Toor Dal Khichadi Recipe

Toor Dal Khichadi is a quick fix for dinner any night of the week. Khichadi also acts as comfort food in winter season. Enjoy it with ghee, Gujarati Kadhi, pickle, or papad.

Method :

  1. Mix rice and toor dal in a big bowl.
  2. Rinse it in warm water for 2-3 times and soak it in water for atleast 30 minutes.
  3. After 30 minutes, drain the water out of the rice-dal mix, keep aside.
  4. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker.
  5. Once the ghee is hot add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and wait for them to crackle.
  6. Add cloves, grated ginger and asafoetida, give it a quick stir.
  7. Add rice-dal mix, stir for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add red chili powder, tumeric powder, salt to taste.
  9. Add 2 cups of water.
  10. Pressure cook this until 3 whistles.
  11. Wait for pressure cooker to cool a little before opening.
  12. Toor dal khichadi is ready to serve.
  13. Enjoy it with ghee, Gujarati Kadhi, pickle, or papad.


  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 1/2 Cup Toor Dal
  • 2 Teaspoon Ghee
  • 1 Teaspoon Musturd Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • A pinch of Asafoetida
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Tumeric Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • Salt to Taste
