Fada Khichadi Recipe
Serves 3 people

Fada Khichadi is very nutritious. It is made with broken wheat and yellow moong dal, cooked with vegetables and spices.

Method:

  1. Wash and soak moong dal for 15 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Heat a pressure cooker, add oil and cloves.
  3. Add asafoetida, potato, tomato, peas and carrots, stir fry for 1 minute.
  4. Add cracked wheat stir fry for a minute, add dal, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt, mix well.
  5. Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  6. Allow the pressure cooker to cool for 15 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves, serve hot with yogurt.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Craked Wheat (Fada / Dalia)
  • 1/2 Cup Yellow Moong Dal (Split Yellow Lentils)
  • 1 Small Potato, diced
  • 1 Small Tomato, diced
  • 1/4 Cup Green Peas
  • 1/4 Cup Carrots, diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • Pinch of Asafoetida
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • To Garnish:
  • 1 Tablespoon Cilantro (Coriander Leaves), finely chopped
